StarBird Space Avenger.
In the 70’s, a lot of toy companies were incorporating electronics into their toys.
While I still maintain that Rom the Space Knight is the coolest of the electronic 70’s toys, the Starbird and it’s variations are pretty close.
All the Starbird toys have a few things in common; press a button and their front lasers light up and fire, tilt the ship up or down and it makes engine sounds that raise or lower in pitch, removable front assemblies, wing fighters and engine parts.
These ships are often missing parts, most commonly a little gun that sits in the ball turret at the back.
There are two main modesl of Starbird, the Electronic Starbird and the Star Bird Space Avenger which was also boxed as the StarBird Avenger.
Depending on the model, there are diferent sticker sets.
The lasers on the Avenger’s nose are set closer together, the canopy plastic is much darker.
The Avenger was a second release of the Starbird and included updated electronics that could both send and receive infrared signals.
The Avenger model comes with a “target” to shoot at to test your skill with the infrared lasers.
A third vessel, the Starbird Intruder, was also made but is much harder to find.
It is basically the front assembly of a Starbird with wings done up in black.
It makes the same laser and engine sounds and includes the advanced infrared electronics as the Avenger.
In fact, the Avenger and Intruder can have battles, knocking out the opponents ship with infrared beams like lasertag.
A disabled ship’s engine will knock out briefly when hit.
Milton Bradley made a playset to go along with the Starbird line, the Command Base.
It is a large cardboard station with plastic accessories like radar dishes, laser guns, a working crane, little vehicles and space men.

I got my S-Bird as a gift when I was a teen, and loved it.
It is one of my top toys ever.
I broke mine of course, and 20 years later, got one off E-Bay.
I still fire her up when I can.
Great laser blasts and the acceleration sound are some of the best memories I have.
Thanks for a great website.

Howard Hoover September 1, 2008 at 5:55 pm I was looking on ebay to find out what an Electronic Starbird is worth but I didn’t see any.
I was fixing to put mine on ebay when I found your site.
It is missing one of the thrusters on the back & the gun is missing, it also has a burn mark on the engine exhaust area where I put a lighter up to it to see if it would make a flame come out.
Yeah a 9 or 10 year old with a lighter doesn’t sound good does it.
Anyway all the electronics & lights still work good.

Any ideas thanks Howard [email protected] Reply

September 7, 2008 at 4:23 am I remember last seeing one of these hanging in a comic book shop in Syracuse, NY in the early 90s.
The owner had taken it and painted it gun metal grey aand highlighted certain areas blood red.
I think he painted large black wings on the bottom of it.
It looked awesome.
I had one when I was a kid, which is how I stumbled across this site when I did a search on eBay.
Just wanted to see if anyone even remembered this toy.
And when I remembered the name and did a search, I found this site.
Thanks for helping me remember my childhood.

James Howard September 12, 2008 at 5:09 pm Thank goodness for mothers who saved things.

My mom just sent me 2 Milton Bradley Electronic Starbirds that I had when I was a kid

Just like anyone, both are missing the gun.
But for the mostpart, there mostly all there.
I just handed them over to my five year old boy and he’s just as excited as I was when I got mine.
Oh yeah, I’m forty now and the sound just takes me back.
Thanks for the site.

Randy March 23, 2009 at 7:10 am Mom and Dad still have all of our toys from when we were kids and they are slowly starting to migrate the 2 hours south to my house.
My 6 year old boy spent spring break at my parents and when I went to pick him up we went to the attic with the intention of finding my brothers Xwing fighter (remember the cool old ones that had the light on the nose like a lazer).
Anyhow, he got that and I got the intruder(I was always bummed My figure wouldn’t fit in the ship).
I pulled it down out of the attic and found a battery for it and it still works.
The entire ship is in very good shape although missing one of the wings/fighters & The gun.
I’m sure it’s around somewhere, just need to find it.
I remember taking it to school in about 2nd grade….back when lazers and toy guns were just toys.
Memories.
Thanks to whoever took the time to put this page up and letting us chime in.

Kristopher April 20, 2009 at 1:18 am Great article.
I had the original StarBird and the Command Center when they came out and thought they were the coolest thing – especially the variable pitch engine sound.
I lost mine in the typical “Mom Purge” of toys “I grew out of” and it was likely sold in a garage sale along with many Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica, and Buck Rogers toys.

If we knew then what we know now… Reply

Jon July 21, 2009 at 10:08 pm Ok, so I’ve posted this somewhere else too, but I thought it belonged here too.
If you have TSR’s (quite excellent) pocket game Revolt on Antares, check out the graphic on the Air Jets counter… they are StarBird ripoffs.
I never had one of these wicked-cool babies, but somebody at school did, and I once got to fly on of the little detatchable wing ships.
I always thought that was a line of BS, but I guess they really were supposed to be ships.
So I guess that wasn’t quite as lame as I thought it was (not that I refused).

Tim November 9, 2011 at 8:22 am Hello, When I was 10 years old I got a Star Bird for Christmas.
It soon became my most beloved toy of my childhood.
My parents had pictures in the photo album of me playing with it.
I found myself later in life trying to remember the name of it.
I forgot what it was called.
Yesterday, I stumbled across one on the internet.
The wave of emotion of seeing and remembering that toy rolled over me like nothing I’ve felt before.
I thought for a moment that I was gonna cry.
I gotta get one.

Eric B December 22, 2011 at 7:57 am I remember waking up one Christmas morning and getting one of these, and yes I seemed to have lost the gun within a few days.

I always wanted a Star Wars Y-Wing fighter, .

But this was the next best thing (and I dearly miss it) Reply

Daniel February 5, 2012 at 6:54 pm I have the PCB (printed circuit board) from my Star Bird.
It is all that survives after these many decades.
I don’t know why I kept it all these years, but I still have it.
I’m sure it would work if connected to batteries and a speaker.
I love the metal ball on tracks that controlled the pitch up and down.
Someday when I have a little extra money, I WILL have another Star Bird.

Speedy September 22, 2013 at 7:50 pm I had the second version of the starbird in year 4.
(Early 80s.) This was the one that DID not haver the removable nose, or the wing fighters.
It shot little missiles, had the same engine sounds and lasers.
It died after many years, but I got a replacement on Ebay, along with oine of the original versions.
(Just need the turret gun, like everyone else does.) The thing is, I have NEVER seen the second version mentioned anywere.

Reply Joel January 28

2017 at 3:13 pm Actually, that version was before the white ones as they’re much harder to find.
There’s also a white and red version of the same design of the silver one.
I currently have three of the silver one and will be receiving an almost brand new white and red one (unopened instructions, stickers, unopened darts and unopened battery).
The white and red one is even harder to find and I’m very lucky that I’ll be getting the most complete one soon.

Nigel October 22, 2016 at 3:30 pm Hi I have a bandai grey starboard.
It’s the one with the retractable landing gear It has all of the missiles, the electronics work.
It is missing the orange plastic engine cover art the rear.
Does anyone know what these are worth before I stick it on eBay.
Only issue is that shipping will be expensive from new Zealand [email protected] Reply Joel January 28, 2017 at 3:20 pm Have you actually put that on ebay yet.
Somebody put one up for $500 and it got nothing.
I’ve asked them if they’ll sell it for $80 as they’ve already gone down to $100.
If you haven’t yet, I would say around $80-90 depending on its condition.
If it has paint wear I would say around $60-70 but if it’s in really good condition probably $80-90.
If it doesn’t have the box that will put the price down a bit.
Seeing you have the darts that helps with the price.
With that rear piece missing though that does devalue it a bit.
See how you go, do what you think is right.

including between the Epic Games Store and Steam

PC GAMING ON LINUX IS SO TOMORROW.
Rocket League: The Epic Way.
When Epic bought Psyonix a while back, the writing was already on the wall.
Soon after, Psyonix dropped the Linux and Mac versions of the game, and now, as the game becomes Free to Play, it has finally become what we all feared it would be: an Epic Store exclusive: Rocket League will release on the Epic Games Store on PC the same time it goes free to play.
This version of the game will be identical to the version found on other platforms.

And will feature cross-platform play anywhere you play Rocket League

including between the Epic Games Store and Steam.

It’s not exactly the end of the road if you were already playing Rocket League on Steam

You will apparently still be able to continue playing (for how long?), .

While it won’t be available for new Steam players anymore

Once Rocket League goes free to play

anyone who already owns Rocket League on any platform (including Steam) will be able to play and enjoy the game with full support for future updates and features.
However, .

The Steam version will no longer be available to download for new players

To put it simply.

Wherever you play now (including Steam)

you’ll still be able to play in the future.
In April 2020, I fantasized that things could go 2 ways once the official support was gone: 1) to include some anti-cheat technology that has no Linux support, 2) to remove Rocket League from Steam altogether and make Rocket League an Epic Games Store exclusive, where Linux support is virtually non-existent apart from setting up your own Lutris client and hoping for the best.
Looks like the second one has come to pass.
The sellouts people at Psyonix.

After building their success on the shoulders of the Steam community

ended up leaving for a poorer, anti-competitive, Windows-only platform.
Surely that must be what progress looks like.

10 Captain Obvious 1 month ago I don’t think it’s that bad.
They say the Steam version will continue to receive updates, and this development actually brings some great news in the form of account sync/platform migration – it seems we’ll be able to take all our existing unlocks and purchased cosmetics and play on other platforms.
That’s great for console players like me who always wanted better framerates but didn’t want to buy the game a second time on newer PCs.
5 Reply to  Captain Obvious 1 month ago Back in May 2019, Psyonix declared “Rocket League is and remains available on Steam.” and a little more than a year later takes it out of Steam.
Sorry if I don’t have a huge amount of trust for whatever they declare nowadays.
1 Chews 1 month ago Uh… What.

Rocket League has been out for five years

If Mac and Linux users wanted to buy it… They would have got it by now, then they would realize it is a futile exercise to play computer games seriously on anything other than Windows… That’s one salty clickbait.
-2 Reply to  Chews 1 month ago Mac and Linux users are not a static group that does not evolve.
There’s new Linux users every single day.

Rocket League is still an actively developed game

So this is about taking away an extremely popular title from Steam to make it exclusive on the Epic Store, while it could have lived in both places instead.
Facts are salty now.
1 GibsGames_ Reply to  Ekianjo 1 month ago Rocket league stopped being available on Mac and Linux last year, or rather no updates and no online play.
You probably don’t actively play the game, because this is gonna be huge for the game.
You’re just trying to hop on the I hate epic bandwagon.
Free to play is gonna be great, active updates for steam and cross progression means you won’t lost anything.
You’re just being salty for no reason -5 Reply to  GibsGames_ 1 month ago I play the game pretty much every day (that’s my regular go to play game).

Rocket League still works on Linux since last year with Proton

in case you were not aware.
So you think the Steam experience won’t be degraded in any way compared to the experience on the Epic Games Store.
Well let’s reconnect in 6 months for an objective comparison on this.
2 Guy Babstock 1 month ago Terrible news, epic are genuinely hopeless, I would advise keeping your accounts as far away from being linked by Epic as possible.
One of their other games completely locked me out of my switch and Xbox due to a “temporary account” and a “failed link”.
This lasted a month and I ended up creating new users for both as they were unable to help me after daily back and forths via email.
Worst company I’ve ever dealt with.

July 12, 2018 at 6:45 am Reply I think the publisher’s intention is that the hardcover is intended for libraries and have priced the book for multiple users.

Not at all actually, in fact the show has had it’s ups and downs that lead to its cancellation on Earwolf, and this is a true return to form, as its for the fans and not for a corporation.

Two Years.
Posted on by Last Thursday, October 18th, marked the two year anniversary of.
While , I certainly didn’t expect it to take this long.
But it’s also weird because it hasn’t seemed that long.
My whole life was put on pause and I moved in with my mom.
I haven’t slept at my place since being diagnosed and I have barely done any of the things with friends that I would normally do.
No summers filled with weekend drives.

No autocross with the Viper and Corvette clubs

All of the things that marked the passage of the seasons and time.
Thankfully I’m feeling normal-ish now and can get back to my life somewhat.
I’m working and finally hanging out with friends again.
Un fortunately due to though, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to be the driver on a spirited drive through the country with friends again.
I’m forced to be a passenger which really sucks.
The same likely goes for autocross.
Hopefully one day they’ll figure out how to repair optic nerves.

Shadowbane Series.
The Shadowbane Series.
Grab an e-reader and get ready, because Kalen Dren, Champion of a Dead God, is about to rock your fantasy world.
WHAT IS THE SHADOWBANE SERIES.
The Shadowbane Series tells the story of Kalen Dren, a thief turned paladin chosen by Helm, the long-dead God of Guardians, to fight darkness in the world.
With his divinely-blessed sword Vindicator, Shadowbane dons dark leathers and haunts the rough streets of city after city, punishing the guilty and meting out justice where there is none.
Cursed with a numbing disease that slowly consumes his capacity for sensation, he can push himself harder and faster than other men, fearless of pain.
As he wages his one-man crusade against evil, he unlocks deeper power and strength within himself, faces loss and trial, and finds and pursues love.
All these things he must reconcile against the demands of his divine patron, whose face he has never seen.
Who are the Characters.
Kalen “Shadowbane” Dren: Wielder of the powerful artifact sword Vindicator, bearer of a magical curse that gradually strips him of pain and pleasure.
Mild-mannered guardsman by day, vigilante paladin by night, chosen servant of a dead god at all times.
Kalen constantly walks a razor line between the noble path of the knight he strives to be, and the darker pragmatism of the thief he once was.
Helm, dead god of guardians, demands stringent service from him, but what if the cost is more than he can pay.
Myrin Darkdance: Mysterious wizard with no memory, heir to terrifying magical power.
Bearer of a sovereign spellscar that draws all others to it, possessed of an overpowering need to help the poor and weak around her.
Myrin is on a quest to fix the broken world around her and uncover the secrets of her forgotten past.
When she touches others, she steals their magic and sometimes their memories, if those memories concern her.
In time, she will find herself again, but what if she doesn’t like what she finds.
Fayne, the Trickster of Waterdeep: Professional character assassin and con artist, cloaked in illusion and lies.
Impossible to outwit or upset, bearer of a secret and eternal enmity.
A creature that is both demon and elf lurks beneath Fayne’s carefully constructed identity, and beneath those, a full and passionate heart.
Will love for her friends let her finally come out of hiding, or will she forsake all she holds dear for a chance to avenge herself.
Lady Ilira “Fox-at-Twilight” Nathalan: Liar and thief, swashbuckler and assassin.
Her past is the stuff of legends, her present as dangerous as a drawn blade.
Unable to touch anyone for fear of burning their flesh, Ilira lives out her many centuries impossibly alone even in a crowd.
There comes a time in her life when she cannot keep running from her enemies, but must instead turn to face them.
Read the Shadowbane series (in chronological order): Last Legend of Gedrin Shadowbane 2019 (free e-story) “Sword of Shadowbane” (prologue to SB: EOJ, sample chapter—don’t read chapter 1!) “Heir of Shadowbane” (free e-story) Book 1: Downshadow (Wizards, Kindle, Nook, Kobo) “Chosen of the Sword” (free e-novella) “A New Purpose” (story included in the Shadowbane bundle, AFTER the main book–see table of contents) Book 2: Shadowbane (Wizards, Kindle, Nook, Kobo) Book 3: Shadowbane: Eye of Justice (Wizards, Kindle, Nook, Kobo)  (note the prologue is set between “The Last Legend of Gedrin Shadowbane” and “Heir of Shadowbane”) Book 4: Shadowbane: Kingdom of Night (working title) — This book is not (yet) contracted by Wizards of the Coast.
I include it here in order to fuel speculation.

Dedric Adams on November 11, 2016 at 10:12 pm I read your article in dungeon #208 Elves with Demonic Designs and liked it.
The Fey’ri are my favorite race in the realms What are your stats for them in 4e and if got around to it for the 5e.
My fey’ri is a female rogue who is a renegade alot like Drizzt.
She has demon blood in her like all Fey’ri but not their evil taint.
I read a post you left on the Candlekeep forum about not all Fey’ri having wings.
She doesn’t have wings.
She doesn’t have much of a demonic taint since is 3/4 Sun elf and 1/4 demon.
In her true form the only signs of her demonic heritage is that she has fiery red eyes and a long pointed tail.
Which are easy to hide.
I made Fey’ri a elf sub race.
I depowered their 3.5 stats meaning for a Fey’ri to get wings they have to take a feat.
Fey’ri demonic abilities are a feat as well and they only get two instead of four.
The abilities like dimensional door and damage reduction.
I like to know what think of my 5e stats for them.
Do you see them making a come back in the realms even if its a small one.
Like Reply on November 13, 2016 at 4:01 pm Well met.
Glad you enjoyed the article.
That’s about as much design of fey’ri as the Realms are likely to get, sadly, but one never really knows.
WotC isn’t publishing anymore novels after Ed’s last one for the foreseeable future, and there’s a FR movie in development.
We’ll just have to see what happens.
I liked the concept from 2e/3e of tieflings having various traits, depending on their fiendish ancestry.
The 4e tieflings with the devil horns and tails etc are specifically Asmodeus tieflings who have become populous enough they are *the* model for tiefling (more detail in the Brimstone Angels series), but the fey’ri as a subrace haven’t evolved into a single homogenous group yet.
Hence different traits, and I’m glad you’ve embraced that in your character.
(And your revisions to make the fey’ri fit in 5e sound good, as long as they fit in your game.
I’d suggest you look at the tiefling as a model for how spell-like abilities should work.) 25% demon is actually a pretty strong bloodline: that makes your fey’ri second generation (child of a half-demon and a sun elf), which is the same generation as Fayne.
The demon is strong in her, as reflected in those powerful abilities, and I hope you play up how powerful her demonic urges probably are, even as she tries to be a renegade and not give in.
That’s a powerful story.
Good luck.

Linus on January 3, 2017 at 5:55 am Hi.
I saw one of the comments here saying WotC needs more authors who are not part of the Salvatore-Evans-Greenwood trinity and I couldn’t agree more.
I’ve been reading Realms novels now, to the point of finishing the entire library and found yours to be my favorites.
Question – There doesn’t appear to be any available background story on Vaelis and how he came to be at fierce odds with Kalen, and also how he ended up throwing in his lot with Kirenkirsalai / Hoar.
Did I miss out anything from your Shadowbane series.
Or will you in future (if fate and WotC decree it) plan to expand on what actually transpired between the two Shadowbanes.

I’ve just finished it reading it along with the short story on Gedrin and how he came to bequeath Vindicator to Kalen.
Two very impressive stories.
The suspense with WotC’s novels line is tearing my heart apart and I hope all goes well with you and the company regarding future releases.

I would really love to keep the flow by reading the 4th very soon.

2017 at 6:43 pm Thanks for the kind words.
Glad you enjoyed.
Alas, WotC is not currently releasing any new novels (not Bob, not Ed, not Erin, not RLB, etc), so SHADOWBANE: KINGDOM OF NIGHT is currently on hold.
I do plan to release a WESTGATE CAMPAIGN GUIDE on the DMs Guild that will relate to the characters and story from the gaming side, but fiction is still up in the air.
For the moment, allow me to recommend my World of Ruin series, which is a similar sort of genre and might be just what you need for the wait.

Simmons on April 20, 2018 at 1:07 am Any word on progress with the 4th novel.
Every couple of months, I come back to check.
I’ve got to have some closure with the end of the 3rd….
Love the series and advocate it strongly when I can.
I swear Kalen is Forgotten Realms Batman.
Like Reply on April 20, 2018 at 1:42 am Alas, WotC still isn’t publishing any novels, let alone mine.
Never say never, though.
Bob Salvatore is publishing another Drizzt novel this autumn, so it’s always possible WotC (or whoever owns the Realms at some future time) will go back to fill out those stories.
I’ve written about half the novel at this point, and I have it all planned out.
I could probably finish it in about a week, if I get the word.
Like Reply Joe on April 20, 2018 at 11:31 am You should do a goFundme to show Wotc the support of the continuation Like.

Simmons on January 19, 2019 at 7:49 pm I would’ve checked back sooner if I thought you’d reply so quickly.
As the other gentleman that commented suggested, if some sort of GoFundMe or another similar fund raising site would kick the 4th book into motion, I’d certainly throw money at it.
A friend had requested suggestions for fiction novels, as they’re interested in writing and wanted to delve into fiction for a year before writing, and I gave them the name of the series with links.
I still need my fix, as well.
If there’s anything us fans can do to help, let us know.

The Telltale Mind on May 16, 2018 at 6:26 pm So I have been trying to complete my Forgotten Realms novel collection and have looked high and low for Shadowbane for ages now, but the I saw a reply on an old Candlekeep forum post where you said Downshadow was the only novel in print – the rest are ebooks.
So just to clarify – Book 2 Shadowbane is an ebook only novel along with Book 3.
Like Reply on May 16, 2018 at 11:03 pm That is correct.
SHADOWBANE and SHADOWBANE: EYE OF JUSTICE are both ebook only.

on January 19, 2019 at 7:58 pm I appreciate the votes of confidence, but there’s not a lot I can do personally to continue the series.
I can’t do a gofundme campaign for a property I don’t own, as it would be irresponsible of me to promise to publish a book I can’t legally publish.
It is entirely up to WotC, and they are currently not publishing novels directly.
There is some sign that novels might be possible, in the form of Salvatore recently publishing TIMELESS and its forthcoming sequel through special agreement with WotC.
They might be open to doing something like that.
In the meantime, here are some things YOU as fans can do: 1) Write to WotC: contact them in writing to express your enthusiasm for the series and desire to see it finished.
Calls and emails are ok, too, but physical letters have a strong impact.
2) Talk about Shadowbane on Social Media, generate buzz and enthusiasm.
The more copies of the books that sell, the more profitable WotC will see that it could be, particularly if they released some kind of physical omnibus version to accommodate new readers.
3) Watch the DM’s Guild for my eventual forthcoming publication of the Westgate Campaign Setting, a project I’ve had in the works for some time now.
That will feature the characters and stories of Shadowbane quite heavily.
(I have previews available through Patreon.) 4) Consider supporting me as a writer in the meantime.
Buy my other work (https://erikscottdebie.com/bibliography), buy my Realms novels for your friends, check out my Patreon page (https://www.patreon.com/erikscottdebie), etc.
What you’re buying is time for me to write and develop more, and also entertainment for yourself.
It’s a win-win.

Halo Wars Definitive Edition – PC

Halo Wars 2 – PC.
Published by – Posted in The first Halo Wars is an exercise in accessibility.
Developer Ensemble Studios set out to make a real-time strategy game for Halo fans, complete with the universe’s iconic worlds and a streamlined console control scheme.
In that respect, the developer succeeded.
But Halo Wars wasn’t the deepest title from a strategy standpoint.
Its basic rock-paper-scissor structure emphasized spectacle and basic tactics over flanking maneuvers or unit positioning.
With Halo Wars 2, though, developer Creative Assembly is trying to expand the franchise’s reach.
“This time, we want to make an RTS for everybody,” creative lead Alistair Hope said after a demo at E3 2016.
“It’s absolutely for Halo fans.
But if you’re into great RTS games, this is for you as well.
Wherever you’re coming from, there’s something here for you.” One of the first notable things about Halo Wars 2 is its presence on PC–its predecessor only ever graced Xbox 360.
And after 15 minutes with the sequel on each platform, I can say the addition of PC is welcome.
Using a mouse to navigate the game world and a keyboard to form groups between your disparate units is an RTS staple that doesn’t make a fluid transition to controllers.
Simply having the option is a welcome change to the Halo Wars formula.
Even on Xbox One, though, Halo Wars 2 displays a certain flow.
For the purposes of my demo, Creative Assembly gave us infinite resources and unlocked every unit from the outset.
While this didn’t give me an overarching idea of how the economy will work, or the process it takes to unlock new structures and units, it did show me how Halo Wars 2’s armies function at their best: hero units in Mjolnir armor firing Spartan lasers at airborn Covenant Banshees; heavily outfitted Pelicans launching missiles into the alien ranks; and Kodiac tanks pummelling enemy Wraiths from afar.

How to Stop Playing Dating Games

by What up, players.
If there’s anything doing my podcast has taught me, it’s that everyone is playing games when it comes to dating.
Intentionally and unintentionally.
None of us are perfect at maneuvering through this new hyper-connected way of finding people to semi-regularly date with no labels until one or both of us ghost each other.
It’s tricky.
But, it seems like we could do better.
We might even save ourselves a crazy amount of time by holding ourselves to some higher standards of interaction.
Let’s start off by gettin’ real clear about what “not playing games” actually means.
Does it mean that you lay your emotional cards out on the table right from the get-go, demand immediate knowledge of the other person’s intentions on a first date, feel the need to be in a relationship asap, and are way too damn serious?.
No.
Dear God, no.
The basic dynamic of human interaction still begs us to take time revealing our layers.
Choosing not to play games means you do your best to show up with an honest version of who you are and what you’re looking for while simultaneously valuing the other person’s time and your own.
Some of these points are actions we can take and some of them are just mindsets we can adopt.
We’ve got enough self-induced anxiety these days, so let’s see what we can do to steer clear of unnecessary dating dramatics, am I right.
1.
Ask clear questions and give clear answers.
If there’s an issue that’s got your panties in a bunch, just ask the question.
Ignorance is bliss until you realize you wasted your life playing hide and seek with Truth.
Truth might be kinda blunt, but it’s mad efficient.
If they ask you a question about where things are going or what you’re looking for etc, etc, fill in the blank…just answer for real.
Don’t say what you think people want to hear.
Whatever you’re trying to get out of them could easily be found with another person.
Be more interested in finding what you actually want than with playing pretend with that person you know is a “WOT”.
Stands for “Waste of Time”.
Get with the lingo.
2.
Just respond when you read it.
A key one for people like me with memory issues.
You don’t have to be glued to your phone and if you’re busy, you’re busy.
That’s fair.
But, if you do happen to read the message and you’re free to answer…just answer.
People appreciate being acknowledged.
If you don’t know the answer, drop a quick text that says you’ll get back to them in a bit.
I’ve seen how lightning fast those thumbs are.
Bang that text out and keep the inbox movin’.
If someone’s super bad at responding to you on the reg.
Signs of lackluster interest.
You know I’m right because you’re slow to answer people you’re “meh” about, too.
It’s nature.
3.
Don’t lie to yourself about who you’re dealing with.
This one’s about not playing games with yourself.
Believe people when they tell you what they’re looking for.
If he/she is out here talkin’ about, “I’m not really looking for anything.

Just out to have fun.” Treat that like the damn truth

Don’t tell yourself you’re going to change that or that they will soon.
You slap an imaginary sticker on that person’s forehead that says “DCF”.
That stands for “Don’t Catch Feelings”.
And don’t even think about catching feelings for that person unless they directly tell you that that’s changed.
Can you still hang with this person.
Absolutely.
Have fun if you’re down.
But, don’t get it twisted about what category they’re in.

If that person starts getting you more in your feelings than Drake

it’s time to spend your time elsewhere.
4.
Always do your own thing, but don’t be purposefully unavailable.
Busy, motivated, social people with interests and talents are sexy.
Universally.
That’s facts on top of facts.
Be that person simply because you’re walkin’ around in a temporary existence and you probably wanna get some things done.
But, if someone tickles your fancy along the way, don’t be weird about making some time for them.
Be like Nike and just do it.
Don’t wait for 7 hours because she made you wait for 3 hours or wait 4 days after the date to hit them up.
There are too many options out there for you to drop off the radar for too long without expressing some form of continued interest.
You better believe I (and any other human who thinks about all this nonsense) have a firm grip on which people are actually interested and which ones are getting in touch when they’re bored.
I’ll put you in that “HJB” category real quick.
Stands for “He’s Just Bored.” Obviously.
5.
Vulnerability is strength.
When you’re trying not to play games, you might have to drop a moment of honesty on people from time to time and that ish can get crazy uncomfortable, but at least you’re out there sharing truths in a world where people are drowning in small talk.
If you want more down to the nitty gritty convo in your life, be willing to be the one to initiate it.
See if they meet you halfway.
Pro tip (like I’m a pro.
HA!): Easiest way to deal with being vulnerable is to release any and all expectation about outcome.
You’re sharing because it’s real and, sometimes, that has to be enough.
It also bears mentioning that not everyone deserves your vulnerability.
Don’t drop your emotions on a person that’s not giving you the time of day in the first place.
That’s a WOT.
You know this.
6.
Develop boundaries.
Some people will treat you any way you let them treat you.
So, it’s important that you know what you’ll tolerate and what you won’t.
If they want to be around you, they’ll respect that.
If not, remove yourself from the situation.
If they ask why you dipped, tell them in a chill and honest way.
If they want to change it up, allow them the chance to.
If they continue it, talk to one of the other 7.7 billion people on this planet.
7.
Don’t try to manipulate other people’s emotions.
Deal with your own.
Don’t flirt with other people in front of them to see if you can annoy them.
Don’t play the victim to see if you can get their attention.

People are out here tryin’ to win an Oscar for the movie they wrote

directed, and starred in called, “Manipulation”.
Stop all that.
If you’re feeling insecure or unsure, ask yourself why first and then bring it up to them if you’ve got enough of a relationship to do so.
Otherwise, realize that you won’t feel the need to control the feelings of a person that’s actually into you and makes sure you know it.
Keep it movin’.
8.
Try not to ghost people you’ve actually met.
A toughie, right.
We’re interacting with so many people online through dating apps and Instagram that to tie a neat bow on every DM in the box would leave us with mental carpal tunnel.
But, if you’ve been on a date with this person…they’re like…real and stuff.
And now, maybe they’re contacting you on the reg to hang and are asking you what’s up…so just drop a friendly exit text if you know it’s not it.
From the people I’ve talked to, being fully ignored is more disheartening over time than just someone being gently upfront with you.
9.
Accept that the other person might still be playin’.
You can’t control another person’s choices.
Players are gonna play.
Just because they’re doing it doesn’t mean you give yourself the excuse to join in.
Then, take it back to #6 when you’re starting to contemplate how much gaming you’re willing to accept before you look elsewhere.
10.
Be kind.
Be honest.
Be “ADH”.
Stands for “A Decent Human”.
Clearly.
And, maybe most important of all, guess what else I’ve learned from all these hours of conversation with a range of different kinds of humans… I’m insecure.
You’re insecure.
Everyone is insecure.
Maybe not fully or all the time, but certainly in moments and when it comes to feeling slighted or rejected.
Internalize that and feel at one with your fellow man for a second.
Feels good, huh.
We all want to be accepted and for people to like us but, at the end of the day, we’ve gotta like ourselves enough to maintain standards that make us feel confident about the way we’re choosing to interact with people.
The natural bounce back will be attracting more of the right types of people for us and being less negatively affected by the ones that just aren’t it.
It always comes back to communication.
The people I trust most in the world are good at just saying what’s up.
Not in ways that are meant to be hurtful or harsh.
Just in ways that are real.
Even if the truth sometimes is, “I’m not even sure what’s going on.
I’ve got issues, triggers, .

And restless leg syndrome.” Pretty sure that’s all of us 86% of the time

If you’re not in the headspace to connect and just wanna do your own thing, then play on player.
Nothing wrong with being in that zone and finding the people that are down to do it with you.
But, if you’re looking to try and tackle this new age dating thing with a little more intention, give these guidelines a test drive next time you’re hittin’ that swipe life.

I’ll take the challenge with you.
